Run run run

Links-meister Thomas wonders:

Eileen Myles ran for President, Norman Mailer for Mayor. I want to say that
there are several other artists/writers who have carried conceptual
campaigns of their own, but at the moment none are coming to mind.

Hunter S. Thompson ran for Sheriff of Pitkin County, Colorado. Upton Sinclair ran for Congress in New Jersey and Governor of California.

There was Kinky Friedman in Texas a couple of years ago, and Mario Vargas Llosa ran for president of Peru back in the 1990s, but he was serious about it so probably doesn't count.

That's all off the top of my head.

Abbie Hoffman (or was it the pig)?
Grandpa Munster?
Gary Coleman?

Or are these people not "artists?"

Does Vaclav Havel count? Not conceptual enough, maybe...

Joseph Beuys for European Parliament, 1979 (got Green Party nomination, but they didn't get enough votes for a seat). Plus Beuys co-founded the Green Party.
