Niiiiice

I.
Verlyn Klinkenborg had a double-jointed review in Saturday's Times, reading Lady Mary Wortley Montagu as if they were a chapter in newly minted Nobel laureate Doris Lessing's Shikasta.

II.
Luc Sante's blogging! The profile sez: "Subjectivity is my middle name, a trick memory is my pack mule, and self-contradiction is my trusty old jackknife." Niiiiiice.

oh, man. my wife & i did the jumong marathon a few months back. the episode where jumong gets killed by his older brother is really devastating... JUST KIDDING! (but i'm not kidding when i say that every time i watched an episode, it felt like i was silently being compared to jumong - QUITE unfavorably - by my wife.)

The Klinkenborg piece is funny because Stacey has recently been reading Lady Marty Wortly Montagu's letters and one of the literary judgments she and
I agree on wholeheartedly is that Shikasta, though perhaps a noble concept, is an unbearably bad book. (Note that Klinkenborg doesn't actually praise anything about Shikasta!) That said, I did enjoy Klinkenborg's idea a lot.
